What to do in Aswan at a glance

The list is a selection, not a ranking. It leaves out the village visit itself, which has its own page on Gharb Soheil. Entries 1 to 4 are sights in and near the city. Entries 5 to 7 are on the water or on its banks. Entries 8 to 12 are temples, from Philae to Abu Simbel, some of them half-day or full-day trips.

Ticket prices are for foreign adults on the ministry pages in 2026 and can change. The list is not a confirmation that every site is open on your day, so check hours before you go. Luxor and Nile cruises are covered on a sister site, see the Luxor guide.

Things to do in Aswan: frequently asked questions

Is this list a ranking?

No. It is an editorial selection of twelve ideas. The order follows geography and the kind of trip, not quality.

Can I combine Kom Ombo and Edfu on one ticket?

No combined ticket is listed. Edfu is a separate trip with its own admission of EGP 550 for foreign adults. See Kom Ombo and Edfu.

Can I swim in the Nile?

The German Foreign Office advises against bathing in fresh water because of schistosomiasis (status 21 October 2026). That is a health recommendation, not a documented local ban, but it is a good reason to stay out of the water.

Which sights are far from the city?

Abu Simbel is the longest trip, with about 3 hours each way by road in one operator's example. Kom Ombo and Edfu are separate trips north of Aswan. Philae, the Unfinished Obelisk and the High Dam are the usual sights close to the city. See tours compared.

Where do I find the Nubian villages?

Gharb Soheil is on the west bank, and Koti and Siou are villages on Elephantine. Both have their own pages: Gharb Soheil and Elephantine.
