How Aswan tours differ

Most trips from Aswan are one of four kinds: a boat to a village or island, a half day around the city, a felucca ride, or a long day to Abu Simbel or the temples to the north. Compare three things for each: how long it takes, who provides the transport, and which tickets are not in the price.

The examples below come from single operators. They show what one product costs, not a market range. Prices are those listed in 2026, they are not confirmed checkout prices, and a published offer does not show free seats on your day.

The Philae and High Dam prices start on the east bank, and a pickup on the west bank costs extra at that operator. For the felucca, the trip to the pier is not included, and a motorboat can be added for $15 when the wind drops. The tour list further down shows live offers with their own inclusions.

What a tour price usually leaves out

Check these before you compare two offers.

Entrance tickets

In the operator examples above, car, driver, guide, captain and boat are in the price, and the temple and site tickets are not. Add the ministry price for each site you enter, for example EGP 550 for Philae.

Philae tickets →

The boat and the evening show

Transport to Philae and the ticket for the temple are calculated separately. The evening sound and light show is another ticket again: $20 for adults and $11 for children aged 6 to 12 on the operator's page, with a boat transfer organized on top.

Where you start

An east bank base is the starting point in the Philae examples, and a west bank pickup costs extra. If your guesthouse is on the west bank or on an island, ask who comes to get you.

Group size

Prices are tied to group size. The felucca and Philae examples are for 1 to 4 or 1 to 2 guests, and a larger group pays a higher tier, not a per-person fee.

Abu Simbel: road, flight and sun festival days

Operator descriptions, not an official traffic ruling.

One operator plans about 3 hours each way and 3 hours at the site, and lets you choose a departure between 4 a.m. and 11 a.m. It says there are no convoys at the moment, yet it asks for passport copies the day before for police paperwork. A second operator names about 280 km, 3.5 hours by road and a flight option of about 30 minutes, and says the police convoy is no longer required. Neither is an official notice, so ask your provider for the current arrangement.

The ministry lists special ticket days on 22 February and 22 October, when a foreign adult ticket costs EGP 1,200 instead of EGP 750. The exact minute the light enters the temple differs from year to year, so do not plan around one. Details are on the Abu Simbel page.

Aswan tours: frequently asked questions

Are entrance tickets included in the tour price?

Not in the operator examples on this page. The price covers transport, a guide and a boat, and you add the ministry tickets for each site. Always read what an offer includes.

How long is the Abu Simbel trip?

One operator plans about 3 hours each way by road and 3 hours at the site, roughly 9 hours in total. That is an example programme, not a guaranteed duration. A flight option of about 30 minutes is mentioned by another operator.

Is a Gharb Soheil visit a tour?

It can be arranged as one, but there is no single village tour price. Village access is described as free by a secondary source, and guesthouse and meal services are paid. See Gharb Soheil.

Can I book Kom Ombo and Edfu together?

They are two separate sights with their own tickets: EGP 450 for Kom Ombo with the Crocodile Museum and EGP 550 for Edfu, for foreign adults. No combined ticket is listed.

Where do I find a Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor?

For 2026 one ship lists Luxor to Aswan from Monday with 4 nights and Aswan to Luxor from Friday with 3 nights, sightseeing not included. That is one ship, not a fixed duration for all cruises. See the Nile cruise guide and getting there.
